 is a universal, non-commercial license for the protection and respectful use of symbolic, theoretical, and semiotic constructs. It enables open, ethically coherent engagement with symbolic materials while guarding against distortion, misappropriation, and extractive use. It is grounded in the ethos of Emergence Research and is made available for use by any creator wishing to maintain symbolic integrity while fostering scholarly or artistic collaboration.

1. Definitions

• Licensed Material: Any symbolic, theoretical, semiotic, or visual construct licensed under SUL-1.0 by its author(s), including systems, constants, field theories, diagrams, or symbolic expressions.
• Symbolic Use: Any act of referencing, reproducing, integrating, or adapting Licensed Material in research, teaching, media, code, performance, or publication with symbolic or semiotic intent.
• Non-Extractive: Use that does not privatize, commodify, or distort the Licensed Material in ways that undermine its intended symbolic or research function.
• User: Any individual, collective, or institution that engages with the Licensed Material under this license.
• Licensor: The original creator(s) of the work applying this license to their symbolic material.

2. Grant of LicenseThe SUL-1.0 license grants Users a non-exclusive, royalty-free, revocable license to:

• Reproduce, reference, and build upon the Licensed Material for symbolic, educational, or research purposes.
• Translate or adapt the Licensed Material for scholarly or artistic integration, provided such adaptation preserves symbolic coherence and proper attribution.

3. Conditions of Use

• Attribution: Users must credit the Licensor and include a link to this license or a full citation of the original framework.
• Symbolic Integrity: No use shall distort or dilute the Licensed Material’s meaning, structure, or relational coherence without explicit acknowledgment of deviation.
• Non-Commercial Use: Commercial use is prohibited unless licensed separately with written consent from the Licensor.
• No Claim of Originality: Users may not claim original authorship over any unmodified Licensed Material.
• No Derivative Branding: Derivatives may not imply affiliation with or endorsement by the Licensor unless explicitly permitted.

4. Prohibited Uses

• Use in AI training models or datasets without prior consent from the Licensor.
• Use in harmful, misleading, or ideologically misappropriative contexts.
• Packaging, selling, or sublicensing the Licensed Material or its derivatives under proprietary or closed licenses.

5. Optional Integrations

• Compatibility: This license is compatible with Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 4.0 (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0), provided symbolic integrity is maintained.
• AI-Assisted Use: Derivations using AI must disclose AI involvement and preserve symbolic coherence.
• Collaborative Use: Use by collectives or labs is permitted, provided all participants comply with this license.

6. TerminationAny breach of these terms terminates the license immediately. Upon termination, all rights revert to the Licensor.

7. Disclaimers

• The Licensed Material is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.
• The material may be philosophical or speculative in nature and is not intended as scientific or legal advice.

8. Attribution must include:

1. Full name of the Licensor.
2. Direct link to this license or accompanying documentation.
3. Statement of how the material was used, adapted, or interpreted.

9. Governing Law and Dispute ResolutionDisputes shall first be addressed through dialogue aligned with the ethical framework of symbolic use. Unresolved disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the state or country of the Licensor’s residence.

10. VersioningThis license may evolve. Continued use implies agreement to the current version unless otherwise agreed in writing.

11. Adoption InstructionsAny creator may adopt the Symbolic Use License v1.0 by including the following statement in their work:

The creator thereby becomes the Licensor of their own material under this universal license framework.
